About the conference

Receive authoritative, topical, timely and practical information and advice on the current situation of the South America mining sector focusing on the key countries of Brazil, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia and also featuring Mexico, Guyana, Ecuador and Bolivia, as well as the project experiences of Australian and international mining companies in this dynamic resources sector, and future opportunities.

South America remains the world's leading destination for both mineral exploration and mine development. On an individual country basis, Brazil is in third place after Australia and Canada, but the gap has closed as a result of recent strong investment. Chile and Peru rank fourth and fifth respectively.

Some parts of this resource rich continent remain under explored and other parts of the region need investment and expertise to modernize.

Although major international mining companies have a relatively long history of mineral exploration and development in South America, in recent years a rapidly growing number of Australian and international junior miners have established operations in South America.

This growing interest was demonstrated by the 200 plus delegates who attended the 1st South American Diggers conference held in Sydney in November 2011. A significant number of juniors and mid-caps participated either as sponsors, exhibitors or delegates together with a line-up of top speakers from regional countries and Australia. The 2012 conference is expected to be bigger and better with more delegations expected from the region as well as a stellar speaker line-up.
