About the conference

South America remains the world's leading destination for both mineral exploration and mine development. On an individual country basis, Brazil is in third place after Australia and Canada, but the gap has closed as a result of recent strong investment. Chile and Peru rank fourth and fifth respectively.

However, some parts of this resource rich continent remain under explored and other parts of the region need investment and expertise to modernize.

Although major international mining companies have a relatively long history of mineral exploration and development in South America, in recent years a rapidly growing number of Australian and international junior miners have established operations in South America.

This growing interested was demonstrated by the 200 plus delegates who attended the 1st South American Diggers conference held in Sydney in November 2011. A significant number of juniors and mid caps participated either as sponsors, exhibitors or delegates together with a line up of top speakers from regional countries and Australia.

Key speakers included the Ambassadors of Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru
